Become a Strutt Volunteer!

We are looking forward to strutting on Sunday, October 3 for the 31st Annual Strutt With Your Mutt Run/Walk event! To ensure a smooth event, we need volunteers to help make that happen! Please see below the volunteer options leading up to Strutt and on event-weekend.

Volunteer Roles Pre-Event Weekend 

Setup a Fundraising page: You can sign-up to be a volunteer fundraiser. What does that mean? Register here, select Virtual Fundraiser as your registration type (no fee to register), and complete the remaining registration questions. Once completed, a fundraising page will automatically be created for you which will enable you to: 

  • Customize your own Strutt fundraising page. Tell us your connection/story at Wayside Waifs. You can even upload a photo! 
  • Set your fundraising goal! Could be $500 or $1,500! Every bit counts to helping the homeless animals at Wayside! 
  • Send out e-mail messages to your contacts using one of our already-created templates - found in your participant center. 
  • Track your donations! You'll get a notification when someone donates to your page. It's so much fun to see how much closer you are to reaching your goal!
  • Share on social media! Create a post, call to action, asking your closest friends and family to support you in your race to save the homeless animals!

Canvass For Strutt: Pick-up Strutt flyers or posters from Wayside Waifs and help us spread the city with event information! You never know who will have a connection to Wayside or who will be interested in participating! We are always looking for first-timers to participate! Email Amanda Smasal at to arrange flyer/poster pick-up. 

Setup a Strutt Giveback Party/Event: Help us raise even more funds for Strutt With Your Mutt by setting up giveback events leading up to Strutt. Examples include restaurants and retailers - many will donate a portion of sales back to charities. 

Setup a Tour at Wayside: Signed up as a group to volunteer at Strutt? While you're waiting for Strutt event week, schedule a tour at Wayside for your group to attend. Learn additional information about Wayside and how your involvment is impacting the animals. To setup a tour please contact Amanda Smasal at


Volunteer Roles Event Week  

Packet Pick-up: Wayside will host early packet pick-up on Friday 10/1 (Location TBD) and regular packet pick-up on Saturday 10/2 at Wayside Waifs from Noon-5pm. Looking for volunteers to fill slots for both days. 

Setup (event day): Help the Wayside team setup the event starting at 4:30 am. Includes setting up tables, chairs, table clothes, etc. 

Registration (event day): Help at one of the registration tables; finding participant's packets and giving them their t-shirt and goodie bags. 

Course Monitor (event day): Help Wayside keep the route safe and make sure participant's are staying on course. 

Water Stop (event day): Fill up cups of water for both humans and dogs to get a sip of water half-way through the race. 

Finish Line (event day): Hand-out water as participant's cross the finish line. 

Clean-up (event day): Break down tables and chairs, trash, etc.
